About Us
We are the college student ministry wing of Collegeside Church of Christ in Cookeville, TN. Here are some of the trips the UCSC does and different ways you can get involved.
Mexico Mission Trip
Each year the UCSC heads for the border. When school finishes up in May, we pile into the church vans for an exciting trek through Mexico. For over a decade, the UCSC has helped Mexican congregations construct much needed meeting space. It is a nine day trip filled with hard work, fun in the sun, and authentic Mexican cuisine.
On the way back home, we take time to have a little fun in Dallas, Texas. Six Flags over Texas, Rangers baseball, and local tourist attractions are always a part of this incredible UCSC tradition.
Let's Start Talking Ministry
Every summer the UCSC sends mission teams all over the globe. The Let's Start Talking ministry teams teach conversational English using the Bible. LST is a more intense missions program as teams raise money and train weeks in advance. In recent years, students have traveled to Thailand, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, Holland, Panama, and Venezuela. Teams of 4 to 6 members participate in 6 week trips and many times go on to do extra travel seeing exciting places all over the world.
Spring Break Mission Trip
College students everywhere are traveling over their spring break. Students from the UCSC make the most of their time while on break by visiting various US cities and serving others. Each year our group provides service for communities in need. From painting to yard work, the UCSC has helped many small churches make a large impact in their area. In recent years we have visited Clemson, South Carolina, Long Beach, Mississippi, Seabrook, New Hampshire, and Buffalo, New York.
Fall Retreat
Each fall, the UCSC packs up and leaves town to enjoy a weekend getaway together, Fall retreat is a special time when the whole group can experience a time of intense learning, worship, and fellowship. Retreats provide students the perfect opportunity to grow closer to God and build meaningful relationships with other students.
Girls and Guys Retreat
This special weekend is the first major event of the school year. For two nights, the guys and the girls go their separate ways. Spending time with just the girls or just the guys is always a highlight of the semester, The UCSC girls enjoy time away at a secluded lakefront cabin painting toenails and relaxing in the hot tub. On the other hand, the guys rough it in the wild next to a camp fire eating raw meat. (okay...it's actually lunch meat followed by s'mores and hot cocoa...but it's manly!) Both groups spend time in prayer and in study while building lasting friendships.
Mid-Week Peak
Take a break in the middle of your week from your studies and busy schedules to be a part of this Christian fellowship. Every Wednesday the UCSC comes together to create a positive environment where everyone can give & receive encouragement and find strength. Each week you will be challenged spiritually through worship, prayer, discussion, media presentations, and dynamic messages. Nearly 200 college students will participate and grow together as we explore a variety of topics relevant to your daily life on campus. Also, numerous opportunities for service, missions, and ministry will be presented during each UCSC Mid-Week Peak.
Activities
As busy as college life is, there is still a lot of free time. The UCSC provides many opportunities for you to have fun as you develop meaningful relationships that will ultimately encourage you in your spiritual life. Throughout the school year we have many events and trips that give you a chance to get out of the dorm or apartment and have a great time. We hope that you will take part in these activities.
